Honest question — is a private cottage in Kodaikanal worth it over a hotel? Sharing my experience

Saw this debated in a few threads here and wanted to add something from recent personal experience rather than just theory.
Travelled to Kodaikanal last month with three couples, six of us total. We had initially shortlisted a couple of mid-range hotels but kept going back and forth because the room rates for six people across three rooms were adding up quickly and we knew we would barely spend time in them anyway.
Ended up booking a private cottage through Cottages Kodaikanal after a friend recommended them and the decision changed the entire dynamic of the trip.
The cottage had a spacious living area where we actually spent evenings together, a fully equipped kitchen that saved us a significant amount on meals, private parking, balcony with an unobstructed hill view, and a caretaker who arranged a campfire on our last night that honestly became the highlight of the whole trip.
Total cost split six ways was considerably less than what three separate hotel rooms would have cost us and the experience was incomparably better. More space, more privacy, more flexibility, and a setting that actually matched why we chose Kodaikanal in the first place.
They offer cottages in kodaikanal for all group sizes and budgets. Couples, families, large groups, honeymooners. Valley view, lake view, forest edge options available. Booking directly with them was easy and the communication was prompt throughout.
For anyone still weighing the hotel versus cottage decision for a Kodaikanal trip, especially if you are travelling in a group, the cottage wins every single time in my experience.
